In Paris, austerity has been left aside for the moment. At least in the Balmain fashion show. The French fashion house presented its autumn/winter (2009-2010) prêt-à-porter collection by the designer Christophe Decarnin. This collection was thought to satisfy the requirements of elegant and sophisticated women who like prominent and shiny clothes.
This new clothes collection is very similar to the proposals Balmain had made last year for the spring-summer season (2009), which was shown at Paris Fashion Week, too. The difference here is it uses grayer and bluer tones, which are tones traditionally affiliated with the winter season.
Shiny mini-dresses with big shoulder pads, spangles, metallic details, heart necklines, animal print and overskirts: all these pieces return for this collection and they are accompanied by booties, skinny pants, blazers and extra-long / extra-wide pants (also known as harem pants).
Dresses that are short in front and long in back also were present in this fashion show, which was obviously based on previous Balmain collections where the black color also prevailed as a common element in Decarnin’s designs, complemented with other colors like silver, white and blue.
